Oakwood Chamber Players Opens New Season this Weekend

Madison’s Oakwood Chamber Players opens the fall season Saturday and Sunday with a new theme and some new faces. This season’s theme is Journey: “Journey with composers whose music encompasses the animation and anticipation at departure and beyond.”

Core musicians are, from left, Marilyn Chohaney, Amanda King Szczys, Leyla Sanyer, Anne Aley, Nancy Mackenzie, Maggie Darby Townsend. Guest players for the inaugural concerts will include Maureen McCarty, violin; Joseph Ross, piano; and Sharon Tenhundfeld, viola.

The program for Saturday, Sept. 9. and Sunday, Sept. 10:
Johann Strauss-Arnold Schoenberg — KaiserWalzer for mixed ensemble
Bruce Broughton — Primer for Malachi for mixed ensemble
Max Reger — Serenade for flute, violin and viola
Alexander Arutiunian — Concert Waltz for winds and piano
Chick Corea — Trio for flute, bassoon and piano
